Commissioners approved an employment contract for Richard J. Edwards to serve as fire chief at the Board of Fire Commissioners Meeting for the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District on Tuesday.

“It is with great pride and confidence that we approve his contract and welcome Chief Edwards aboard,” TMFPD Chair Alexis Hill said in a statement. “His leadership, dedication, and vision align with our mission, and I am truly excited for what the future holds with him as part of our fire family.”

The one year contract begins July 1, 2025, and ends June 30, 2026 and includes provisions for an annual salary of $296,849.28, benefits in the amount of $145,753, and other provisions common to executive employment contracts, including those of the previous Fire Chief, and to authorize reimbursement of moving expenses up to $5,000. Additional contract renewals are at the discretion of the board.

“I’m deeply honored and grateful for the trust placed in me by the Fire Commissioners,” Chief Richard Edwards said in a statement. “I’m committed to leading with integrity, supporting our dedicated firefighters and personnel, and continuing to serve this community with the excellence it deserves.”
