Woman dies after being struck by car in north Phoenix

A woman has died after she was hit by a car in north Phoenix late Thursday night. The collision happened near 7th Street and Thunderbird Road.

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A woman has died after she was hit by a car in north Phoenix late Thursday night.

Phoenix police say just before 9 p.m., officers were called to the crash near 7th Street and Thunderbird Road. Once they arrived, they found 77-year-old Barbara Greenwell seriously injured in the road.

Greenwell was rushed to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Investigators say Greenwell, who was not in a crosswalk, was attempting to cross Thunderbird Road when the crash occurred. The driver involved remained at the scene, and impairment is not believed to be a factor.

Thunderbird Road was closed throughout the night but later reopened on Friday.
