2 fights cause chaos at N.J. mall but it wasn’t gunshots, officials say

Two fights that broke out around the same time caused a commotion at the Jersey Gardens mall Sunday afternoon, officials said.

The incidents at The Mills at Jersey Gardens in Elizabeth lasted for approximately 15 minutes, a city spokesperson told NJ Advance Media.

“There were no shots fired, there was two fights in two different stores,” Ruby Contreras, the city’s public information officer, told NJ Advance Media.

“One fight was between employees and the other was between patrons,” Contreras said.

One person, a minor, was arrested for disorderly conduct, Contreras added.

Several videos posted to TikTok showed people reacting to the chaos.

Additional information was not immediately available.

It was the latest incident involving fighting at a New Jersey mall. A brawl at the Menlo Park Mall in Edison three weeks ago resulted in seven arrests.
