Hot topics in Rio Nido

Here we are, finally, in June — yippee! I'm sure everyone is thrilled we've made it past this blustery, wet winter. May was cool, with a few warmer days, some strong wind gusts, and occasional rain. I'm not complaining — as far as I'm concerned, the rain is always welcome. It's the cold weather and wind that I dislike most. The official first day of summer is June 20. Make the most of this year's summer, as it flies by quickly. The heavy rains this past winter created numerous potholes around Rio Nido.

Potholes

The heavy rains this past winter created numerous potholes around Rio Nido. Our community also has many natural springs that emerge during the wet months. While we're grateful to the county for temporarily filling these potholes, we anxiously await more permanent paving solutions. Some roads in Rio Nido, especially Sequoia Road off Canyon 7, need significant repairs.

Cats in Rio Nido

Several cats have gone missing in Rio Nido recently. Please keep a close eye on your outdoor cats, as there have been sightings of foxes and mountain lions.

Speeding

Speeding continues to be a serious issue in Rio Nido. Residents must remember that our community includes many young families, with children playing, riding bicycles and skateboarding. Numerous complaints have been reported about high-speed vehicles on Rio Nido Road, Canyon 7, and Willow Road. Please be mindful of your speed. Additionally, our neighbors often enjoy leisurely strolls through our beautiful community — these streets aren't meant for speeding.

Summer barbecues

A big and heartfelt thank you to the Russian River Recreation and Park District for beautifying our park areas. Next to the Rio Nido Dog Park, we now have a barbecue area and new picnic tables. It’s a serene and lovely spot perfect for family barbecues or gatherings with friends over grilled food, salads, and beverages. The children's playground is just a few feet away, across from the Rio Nido Citrus Grove. Be sure to call Russian River Recreation and Park District to reserve a picnic table. Remember, when Guerneville gets uncomfortably hot, Rio Nido remains relatively cool.

Rio Nido pet of the month

Meet Primo, a purebred Jack Russell terrier. Primo is four years old and frequently visits Rio Nido. His family rents a vacation property every few months on Canyon 6. He enjoys visiting the dog park during small-dog hours but often plays with larger dogs. Primo has a big personality and loves chasing the bigger dogs, who find him harmless and playful. He's a friendly and lovable pup who always has a great time visiting his favorite spot. Let's give Primo a warm Rio Nido welcome!
